One of the first departments of Muş Alparslan University, the Department of Mathematics was established in 2009 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the university, which was founded in 2007. The Department Headship was held by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun POLAT, who was the founder of the department, from 2009 to 2016. In 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Talat KÖRPINAR took over the position of department head. Between 2017 and 2019, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun POLAT took over the position of department head again. Since 2019, the Department Headship has been held by Prof. Dr. Erdal KORKMAZ.
The Department of Mathematics started its education and training activities in the classrooms of the Faculty of Education in the Agricultural Equipment building within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 2010. In 2011, it continued its education and training activities in the Health High School classrooms, in 2012 in the Farabi classrooms in the 1st Central Classrooms of the Muş Alparslan University Complex, and in 2013 in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy classrooms. In 2010, a total of 90 students were admitted for first and second education. Since 2012, there has been no second education student admission. The department produced its first graduates in 2014. In 2019, it moved to the 2nd Central Classrooms of the Muş Alparslan University Complex and continues its education and training activities in the Aziz SANCAR classrooms belonging to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
There are 4 Prof. Dr., 3 Assoc. Prof. Dr., 2 Assistant Professors and 1 Res. Asst. in the Department of Mathematics. There are 6 departments in the department.
